Pan-United to introduce CarbonCure’s breakthrough technology providing greener and stronger concrete to the ready mix concrete industry in Singapore and region

The Strategic Partnership Agreement signing ceremony took place on November 15, 2018 in Singapore between Pan-United and CarbonCure. It was jointly witnessed by the Honourable James Gordon Carr, Canada’s Minister of International Trade Diversification, and Mr Png Cheong Boon, Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Singapore, the Singapore government agency championing enterprise development.CarbonCure Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robert Niven, was represented by Mr Christian Weisenburger, CarbonCure General Counsel. The Pan-United signatory was its Executive Director, Mr Ken Loh.

SINGAPORE, 19 NOVEMBER 2018 – Canadian clean technology company CarbonCure Technologies Inc. (“CarbonCure”) has partnered with Singapore concrete innovation company Pan-United Corporation Ltd (“Pan-United”, “泛联集团” ) to bring CarbonCure’s breakthrough CO₂ recycling technology for concrete manufacturing to Asian markets.

The CarbonCure Technology chemically converts carbon dioxide captured from industrial emitters into a nano-mineral that becomes permanently embedded within concrete. The process improves concrete’s compressive strength and enables concrete producers to realize manufacturing efficiencies while reducing the concrete’s carbon footprint. The CarbonCure Technology has the potential to save over 4,000 tonnes CO₂ annually at each Pan-United concrete plant.

Mr Niven said: "Singapore is a vital gateway to CarbonCure’s entry into Asia to further our global efforts to mitigate harmful carbon emissions from the built environment.

“We are delighted and convinced that we have a like-minded and strong partner in Pan-United, which is the industry leader in South-east Asia for advancing green concrete initiatives. Pan-United’s technology capabilities in the concrete and logistics space are second to none in this region.”

Employing over 1,500 people, Pan-United is Singapore’s largest concrete and cement company, with operations expanding across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. It is the first concrete firm to attain the Singapore Green Building Council’s (SGBC’s) “Leader” certification, which is the SGBC’s highest level of sustainability certification.

Pan-United concrete batching plants in Singapore will be installed with the CarbonCure Technology.

Pan-United
Executive Director

Mr Ken Loh [羅嘉遜], Pan-United Executive Director, said: “Pan-United is excited to expand our portfolio of sustainable initiatives with the addition of CarbonCure’s unique breakthrough technology.

“We view its clean technology as very useful in addressing the urgent climatic need to reduce the global carbon footprint. Pan-United intends to expand the use of the CarbonCure Technology by introducing it to other ready mix concrete producers in Singapore and the region.

“While reducing the overall carbon footprint, we believe this special process has multiple benefits to enable sustainability gains not only for concrete producers and the construction industry but also for developers in their building projects,” he noted.

”As a proudly homegrown company, Pan-United seeks to continually set new industry standards in Singapore as well as in overseas markets, and to extend global awareness of our technical capabilities, service standards and product development expertise,” Mr Loh added.

CarbonCure, a world leader in carbon dioxide utilization technologies for the concrete industry, announced in September that it had closed a strategic round of investment led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a $1 billion clean technology investment fund created to accelerate the world’s transition to clean energy. CarbonCure’s entry into Asia represents a quick delivery on one of the major objectives of this investment, which was to accelerate CarbonCure’s expansion into international markets and commercialize new value-added CO₂ technologies.
