CarbonCure Named Overall Climate Technology Company of the Year
The CleanTech Breakthrough Award recognizes the company’s recent milestone of 10 million truckloads of concrete produced worldwide with its carbon utilization technologies.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, April 9, 2026 — CarbonCure Technologies announced today that it has received the 2026 CleanTech Breakthrough Award for Overall Climate Technology Company of the Year. The annual award recognizes leading innovators driving meaningful progress across the global climate technology ecosystem.
The recognition follows CarbonCure’s recent milestone of ten million truckloads of concrete produced by its global network of industry partners, representing the largest deployment of carbon mineralization technology in the built environment. By using CarbonCure, these producers have saved nearly 750,000 metric tons of CO₂ to date, equivalent to removing more than 174,000 gas-powered cars from the road for one year.
“We proudly share this CleanTech Breakthrough Award with our innovative concrete industry partners using CarbonCure to produce high quality, lower carbon mixes in communities around the globe,” said Kristal Kaye, interim CEO of CarbonCure. “Thanks to their extraordinary leadership and partnership, together, we’re proving that concrete sustainability is not an aspiration for the future. It’s happening today, at scale, making a measurable climate impact in every truckload.”
Concrete is the world’s most-used manmade material, and its key ingredient, cement, accounts for an estimated 7% of global CO₂ emissions. That is three times the carbon footprint of global aviation.
CarbonCure’s drop-in carbon mineralization solution enables concrete producers to inject captured CO₂ into fresh concrete, where it immediately and permanently mineralizes. This mineralization maintains compressive strength, allowing producers to reduce cement content and associated embodied carbon emissions while delivering concrete with the same quality and performance.
“Our ten million truckloads milestone resulted from a decade of commercial adoption across hundreds of concrete plants in nearly 30 countries, demonstrating repeatable impact across diverse markets and mix designs,” said CarbonCure Chief Technology Officer Dean Forgeron. “With an estimated 100,000 concrete plants worldwide, reducing embodied carbon in new concrete construction is one of the most immediate and impactful opportunities this decade to decarbonize the built environment.”
