CarbonCure Technologies Statement on 2021 U.S. Federal Sustainability Plan

December 9, 2021, Halifax, NS — CarbonCure Technologies Senior Director of Government Affairs Eric Dunford issued the following statement about the U.S. Executive Order on Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability:

“CarbonCure Technologies is very glad to see the White House taking action on climate change, with its Executive Order on Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability. Through the accompanying Federal Sustainability Plan, government leaders have set ambitious goals for emissions reductions across federal properties. We are especially excited to see that this executive order targets embodied carbon emissions from building materials used in the construction of federal buildings for the first time.

With its requirement for contractors to disclose, starting next year, the embodied carbon of building materials for new building and major modernization projects, the policy will also catalyze the private sector to embrace innovation and decarbonize the broader built environment.

Our concrete producer partners in the U.S. are eager to roll up their sleeves and get the job done, with the opportunity to supply public and private sector construction projects with lower-carbon, more sustainable concrete.

Policymakers at the federal, state and local levels have further opportunities to tackle climate change through sound policy. This executive order provides an effective model and represents an important step in the right direction that will unleash robust innovation in climate technologies and help initiate deep decarbonization of the built environment that we need to achieve net zero emissions by midcentury.”
